Finally got a camera and chemicals. I've bought Ilford Multigrade Developer and Ilford Rapid Fixer to be used with the Harman Direct Positive paper.
Just a couple of questions:
• Are the chemicals diluted or used neat? If diluted, are they used once then thrown away?
• Is there a way of knowing when the chemicals are 'spent' and need to be thrown away or do you just know when it stops working?
An easy way I do it is to pull 2ml developer into the syringe from a beaker, then pull it up to 20ml with water from another beaker. Same for fixer. I don't mix up large quantities first and there's no waste, as any leftover chemicals go back in their bottle.
In case it's relevant, I also bought an extra set of syringes, so I have a back up set if I exhaust the first set when I'm out and about. I labelled the sets A and B with a Sharpie, so I don't muddle them. I play it safe and only aim for two shots per syringe.
Dilute according to the instructions on the bottles. Developer doesn't last long once diluted but you might get a couple of shots per syringe if you're lucky. Fixer lasts for longer, but it's a good idea to mix fresh for a day's shoot if you can.
